Ayrton Simmons joins Charouz Racing System for FIA Formula 3 final round at Sochi
“Ayrton is a promising driver who already has a few years of experience and I’m sure he will get up to speed in no time once in the car at Sochi.”
Antonín Charouz
Charouz Racing System announces that Ayrton Simmons will replace Hunter Yeany for the seventh and last round of the FIA Formula 3 season that will take place at Sochi, Russia, on September 24-26. Simmons will join Logan Sargeant and Zdenek Chovanec in the #30 car, marking his official debut in the championship.
The line-up change is due to Yeany’s inability to participate in this last race weekend, initially scheduled in Austin at the Circuit of the Americas. Unfortunately, after this change in the championship calendar, the American driver had to give up participating in his third FIA Formula 3 weekend due to an incompatibility with a prior commitment related to his racing activities in the US.
Simmons, a 20yo driver from Britain, will make his debut in the FIA Formula 3 counting on the experience behind the wheel of a single-seater accumulated in the last three seasons. Ayrton raced in the F4 British Championship certified by FIA-powered by Ford in 2016, 2017 and 2018, year in which he finished P2 in the championship. He then participated in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship (third in 2019), the F3 Asian Championship and the Euroformula Open. This season he was competing in the GB3 Championship, where he is currently P2 in the Driver overall standings.
Antonín Charouz, team owner
“I’m sorry that Hunter will not be able to finish the season with us, but unfortunately the change in the calendar was necessary to allow all the teams to manage the participation in the last round of the championship and there was no way to reconcile this change with his other commitments in the US. However, I’m happy that Ayrton was available to answer the call and take his seat, he is a promising driver who already has a few years of experience and I’m sure he will get up to speed in no time once in the car at Sochi”.
Ayrton Simmons
“I’m really looking forward to racing with Charouz Racing System. I want to thank the team and also my sponsors for giving me this opportunity e getting me to Sochi. I’ve never driven the car before and never driven with Pirelli tyres so it’s probably going to be difficult at first to get used to everything having limited track time, but we’ll try to learn as much as possible, and I’ll make sure I’ll be as well-prepared as I can to deliver the best possible result”.
