Unlucky weekend for Charouz Racing System at Silverstone for Round 4 of the 2022 FIA Formula 3 championship

The fourth round of the 2022 FIA Formula 3 campaign proved to be a tough one for Charouz Racing System. The team worked hard as usual to prepare for the English weekend but the difficult conditions of the track made it harder for the drivers to put together their lap in Qualifying and find the pace in the two races.
Francesco Pizzi was the best qualifier for the Czech team, with a 1:45.576 that earned him P19 although he was within the second from the pole position lap time, while Zdenek Chovanec and László Tóth struggled more than the Italian Rookie and found themself starting at the back of the grid.
The Sprint Race saw an unfortunate start for Pizzi, who lost a few positions in the first corners and slipped towards the back of the group finishing in P24 , while a misunderstanding between Chovanec and Toth led to a contact that knocked out both drivers halfway during the race. In the Feature Race things went a little better, with Pizzi able to recover some positions and finish in P14, as well as Toth who finished in P22 and Chovanec who classified in P25.
Charouz Racing System will be racing again as early as the next weekend in Round 5 with the first back-to-back race of the FIA Formula 3 2022 season at Red Bull Ring in Austria

“Pretty difficult weekend for us. Things didn’t go our way on Friday and then we kept struggling in the two races because we obviously weren’t in an ideal position on the grid. I’m sorry for Francesco that his good lap time in Qualifying wasn’t enough for a better result, but this is Formula 3 and the fight is always really, really tight. I’m sorry also for László and Zdenek, especially for their unfortunate crash in the Sprint Race. “I was really disappointed after Qualifying, I didn’t really have the pace and it was quite difficult for me as it was my first time driving in Silverstone. On Saturday we had the crash in the Sprint Race which I think could have been avoided but I really couldn’t do anything about that, then on Sunday things went a bit better with some decent progress during the Feature Race. Not the best weekend for us but we’re looking forward to the next one”.
Zdenek Chovanec
“This weekend was really difficult for me because I didn’t find the right feeling with the car as I thought I would. We improved a bit from FP1 to Qualifying but it wasn’t enough, then in the Sprint Race I made a big mistake from which I can only learn the lesson for the future. The pace wasn’t the best also in the Feature Race but still we managed to get to the chequered flag and that’s a good thing”.

“It’s been another tough Qualifying but I think we did a good job and that this was our best one of the year so far, given that I didn’t have the chance to race here before and I was just 9 tenths from pole position, so all in all our pace was actually pretty good. We were not so lucky at the start of the Sprint Race, I had a bit of a contact and I dropped down in the last positions, but then in the Feature Race I managed to recover eleven positions and finish P14, so we didn’t get in the points but it was a quite decent race in the end”.
